Leave it to Dolce & Gabbana to sign yet another iconic face to its newest beauty franchise, The Lift Foundation and The Primer: Linda Evangelista. The fashion powerhouse isn’t so interested in barely-legal models as it is established women with history and a story to tell (like 49-year-old Italian actress Monica Bellucci, who fronted the launch of its Classic Cream Lipstick). As Style.com’s Tim Blanks said of Evangelista, “She was and is the great actress of the modeling world.” And like so many ’90s supers (such as Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford) who have made a resurgence in recent years — both starring in campaigns and starting their own brands — Evangelista is right up there with the rest of The Trinity.
As for her thoughts on the designers’ new base infused with gold silk sericin (a blend of moisturizing amino acids and polypeptides), skin-strengthening olive oil, and vitamin B3 to ramp up the production of fatty acids and ceramides: “[Foundation] has changed so much from the ’80s and ’90s — there wasn’t technology in it,” she noted. “There’s instant gratification that comes with this one and long-term benefits. Plus, you can skip steps, but it’s not a BB. I don’t like BB creams — I bought them all and never found one I liked.” The primer that boasts light-reflecting particles that blur fine lines and SPF 30 is also Evangelista’s go-to sun protection for the darker days of winter. (She relies on a daily dose of La Roche-Posay Anthelios for summer.)
Despite all of the antiaging properties found in the new products and the public pressures to obtain eternal youth, the legend says she doesn’t strive to look like she did on Dolce & Gabbana’s runway in 1990, strutting down the catwalk in a leopard coat (the first appearance of the house’s signature print). “I’m not trying to turn back the clock. I want to go forward.” We have a feeling Evanglista’s future is as bright as her illustrious past.
